I thought it would be appropriate to publish my first review post on a beer that I bought at 6 in the morning in the Portland Airport. A couple months ago my girlfriend and I were flying back from Hawaii, sob, and had an early morning layover in Portland. Best way to beat the end of vacation blues? Buy Beer! I couldn't help but stop and pick this up. I've heard some good things about Burnside Brewing in Portland, but this is my first beer from them.

Sweet Heat is a wheat beer brewed with 200 lbs of Apricot puree and Jamaican Scotch Bonnet Peppers. It pours a little bit cloudy with little to no head. Upon first sip the beer is crisp with a hint of apricot followed by a strong pepper bite. It has a full body and feels like each sip is 2x larger than what it actually is. The pepper bite dissipates some as the beer warms but I'll be honest, this beer made me sweat. Literally.

Overall, I don't know how much I actually enjoyed this beer as opposed to enjoying the novelty of an "abnormal" beer. I don't think I'll drink it again but at the same time I think it is a beer everyone should try at least once. Don't pass it up if you come across it. This is one of the most unique beers I've ever tried and the compliment between fruit and pepper is very interesting. I recommend this beer for a "one time because it's different" try, and am happy I did...but wish I had had a sweat towel. Prost!
